Eleanor Briggs: The Traveling Camera

The Vermont Center for Photography will present a new exhibition of photographs by Hancock, NH photographer, Eleanor Briggs titled, “The Traveling Camera” in May 2011. The exhibit highlights color photographs taken during Briggs’s travels to Southeast Asia and India.

Since 1989, award-winning photographer Briggs has worked extensively in Southeast Asia and India photographing people, nature, and birds.  She has been a field researcher for the International Crane Foundation and a board member of the Wildlife Conservation Society.  She has traveled and/or lived in Burma, Laos, Bhutan, Nepal, and Cambodia, India, and Bolivia.

Briggs’s work has been shown in museums and galleries in New England and nationwide in the past three decades.  In addition, her photographs have appeared in national magazines and books (The Man-Eating Tigers of Sundarbans and Tonle Sap: The Heart of Cambodia’s Natural Heritage).  Her work is on display in the American Embassies in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and Lima, Peru.  She was awarded the Sahametrei Medal by the Government of Cambodia for her conservation efforts and book, Tonle Sap: The Heart of Cambodia’s Natural Heritage in 2007.
