Fred Picker (1927-2002) lived in Dummerston, Vermont.  In the early 1980’s, Picker was a leading force in the fine art photographic community.  He was nationally known for his black and white photography, teaching photographic workshops, writing a large format subscription newsletter, and starting Zone VI Studio.
Fred Picker’s philosophy was to keep it simple and know your film and equipment.  He developed a simple set of tests which, when followed, would give you optimal results for your film and gear.  He was a a firm believer in large format photography. He said if you are a fine art photographer, you should be using the best equipment for the job.  Picker’s teachings and writings on the craft of large format photography is still taught and used by many leading photographers today.
