New Work by VCP Members

An Open Exhibition of Artwork by Members of the Vermont Center for Photography

- Feb 2009

A diversity of photography styles and concerns is well represented in a new exhibit, “New Work by VCP Members,” at The Vermont Center for Photography, opening February 6.

New Works by Members highlights many personal directions in modern photography. Twenty-five exhibiting members have submitted photographs for display.  “There is no way to put a label on this show, except that all the photographs will be very personal expressions of the artist,” says Al Karevy, one of the curators of The Open Show.

Included in the exhibit are artists from Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Images include pinhole photography, tintypes, digital and traditional printing, and photos from antique cameras.

One exhibitor is Stephen Parker of Winchester, NH.  Parker’s images are dramatic black and white abstractions that take a three dimensional world into two dimensions and turns them into strange and compelling relationships.

Another member with work in The Open Show is Len Seeve from Amherst, Massachusetts. Seeve’s photos are not really abstractions, but studies in shape, color and texture. The subjects of the photos are easily recognized.

Other artists represented are Heather Beard, Gene Butera, Barry Dial, Alexis Doshas, Jonathan Flaccus, Suzanne Flynt, Doug Frank, Al Geist, Erik Hoffner, Bill Jewell, John Kudukey, Jeff Lapid, Jim Latchis, Sarah Lavigne, Chris Madigan, Michael, Miller, Sam Pettengil, Dick Pearce, Vic Salvo, Robert Sargent Fay, and Judy Unger-Clark.

Gallery hours are Thursday, Friday, 2 to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.; or by appointment. For directions or information, please call 802-251-6051 or visit the website at http://www.vcphoto.org.
