Photograms

Leigh Anne Langwell

- May 2006

Exhibition Image
Leigh Anne Langwell’s art is an exploration of the boundaries between photography, fantasy and science.  Her show is a series of photograms; a technique that dates back to the earliest days of photography.  Uniquely captured, these images are made without a camera or a negative.  A sheet of silver-gelatin paper is simply exposed to short bursts of light to capture the images and their shadows.

The inspiration for Langwell’s work derives from her background in medicine and biology.  She draws delightful parallels between the macroscopic and the microscopic and creates little verses of poetry disguised as scientific documents.
