Topography of Time: Photographs by Sam Pettengill and Suzanne Flynt

Sam Pettengill, Suzanne Flynt

- Sep 2009

Topography of Time: Photographs by Sam Pettengill and Suzanne Flynt includes forty landscapes incorporating tintypes, wet plate, vintage lenses, and pinhole photography. This exhibition explores the ever-changing landscape of rural Vermont, Massachusetts, and New York by looking at stonework found in fields and woodlands, trees in their various stages of life, and the waterways that define and sculpt the landscape. Working out-of-doors to capture natural, as well as man-made beauty, mysteries, and patterns, Suzanne Flynt and Sam Pettengill look to the past to create photographs that incorporate old photographic processes and equipment with a contemporary vision.

Suzanne Flynt lives in Dummerston, Vermont, and is Curator of Memorial Hall Museum in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Sam Pettengill has taught photography for many years. He lives in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

Please join both photographers for an artists’ talk on Thursday, September 10, at 7:30 pm.

The exhibition runs September 4 to 27, 2009.
