Senator Patrick Leahy

“As the son of a printer in Montpelier I learned early about the power of the printed word and the printed image, and a lifelong interest in photography was born the first time I picked up a camera.  Photographs can at once be both timely and timeless.  They enhance our understanding beyond the ability of words alone.  They can bridge the gap from generation to generation and breathe life into our history.  The essence of leadership sometimes is better captured by the lens than by the pen, and when I have been fortunate enough to visit with presidents or popes, sometimes I have also been fortunate enough to have my camera along at just the right moment.”

Sen. Patrick Leahy has served since 1975 in the United States Senate, where he is Vermont’s senior senator.  His photographs have been published in several newspapers and magazines, including U.S. News & World Report, TIME Magazine, and USA Today.  He and his wife, Marcelle, live in Middlesex.
