Our Mission
The mission of Vermont Center for Photography is to promote the photographic arts through exhibitions and education, and to stimulate dialogue, encourage inquiry, and communicate ideas using the photographic medium as its focus.
DONATE NOW TO THE VCP
We need contributors like you to continue to be the region’s only photographic resource, offering a vibrant array of changing shows monthly. Please give any amount you can afford. We are a non-profit 501 C-3 and your donation is tax deductible. Thank you!
VCP History
In 1998 photographer Eric Slayton founded the Flat Street Studio and Gallery in Brattleboro, Vermont as a space for adult photography instruction and gallery exhibition. Flat Street Gallery became a non-profit organization in 2001, and has since restructured under the name Vermont Center for Photography (VCP.)
The Center is now an integral part of downtown Brattleboro’s vibrant art scene and is a popular stop on its monthly Gallery Walk, celebrated as one of the best art venues in Vermont.
In addition to hosting a new feature exhibit each month with an average of 200 visitors on opening night, VCP offers ongoing workshops, professional darkroom rental, exhibiting artist talks, and monthly portfolio critiques, among other regularly scheduled events.
The relocation of the In-Sight Photography Project, Brattleboro’s highly acclaimed youth-oriented photo program, to the space next door, helps make VCP an even greater force for promoting the art and craft of photography in southern Vermont.
