AND THE WINNER IS . . .
VCP drew the winning ticket of its fundraising raffle, an Ultra Large Format 7 by 17 inch camera designed and built by Richard T. Ritter during the opening celebration of Ten Years Later: New Works from Past Exhibitors on April 4th during the Brattleboro Gallery walk. The winner of the raffle was Brattleboro resident and member of VCP, Roger Katz. Congratulations Roger!
The event was such an exciting and successful evening for The Vermont Center for Photography, despite the rainy weather the BAND PLAYED ON! And what a band they were! Thanks to Jay Cook and Jazzberry Jam for such an excellent complimentary performance to our anniversary celebration!
VCP also published its first exhibit catalog to commemorate this special occasion. Entitled “Ten Years Later” the catalog features works by 25 artists from past exhibits at VCP. The photographs in the book as well as the exhibit represent new work by these artists. The exhibit and book show how the artists’ works have changed since their exhibits at VCP.
The book includes remembrances and statements about the gallery and the work. The catalog is for sale for $16.00 through the gallery on Flat Street.
The Vermont Center for Photography, a non-profit gallery featuring fine art photography, was founded in 1997. The gallery represents photographers from Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and New York, promoting a regional community of photographers.

The Long View, Panoramic Photographs from Exhibiting Members
The panoramic format, captured either in camera, through the use of image editing software or as the product of sequential collage creates a viewing vista from which we can widen our imaginations. It selects a slice, either vertical or horizontal, that focuses our attention on the whole, not arbitrarily cropped version of sight.
This show also celebrates the beginning of our tenth year as a regional photographic gallery. The Vermont Center for Photography is raffling a 7 by 17 inch panoramic camera donated to VCP by Richard Ritter. There will be work in the show taken by his ultra large format panoramic camera. Exhibiting member photographers exhibiting include: Gene Butera, Bob Cantius, Kate Cleghorn, Jean Davis, Barry Dial, Jonathan Flaccus, Bob George, Peter Haas, Paul Miller, and Richard Ritter.
An opening reception will be held at the Gallery, 49 Flat Street (next to the parking garage) during Brattleboro’s Gallery Walk on Friday, March 7 from 5:30 to 8:30pm: The public is invited and refreshments will be available. The Vermont Center for Photography, a non-profit gallery featuring fine art photography, was founded in 1997. VISIT THE Zooborhood
Thanks to those who braved the weather last Friday to attend Gallery Walk and view our newest exhibit!
The gorgeous, thoughtful, color portraits by VCP founder Eric Slayton is a show that is both captivating and fun to see. Don’t miss your chance to see these enchanting charismatic mega fauna!
Eric Slayton explores the relationship between an urban zoo, full of wild animals and faux wild places, with the city outside its doors in his latest project, Zooborhood. In spring of 2004 Slayton worked as a field biologist at the Bronx Zoo. This gave him access to the zoo grounds most visitors do not get to see. About commuting to the zoo Slayton said,”...once I crossed through the zoo gate there was a clear and distinct shift to this ‘thing’ that was visibly discordant with the urban life outside the gate.” Slayton’s goal was to reveal the ways in which the Bronx community has their sense of nature shaped by the zoo in the middle of their neighborhood, particularly through the experience of the zoo’s employees.

He has exhibited in many galleries, locally and in New York. Slayton is a bird naturalist currently working on a bird study in Central Park.

Kate Cleghorn Opening at Gallery Walk
Kate Cleghorn’s opening of Traveling the Trace: Nashville to Natchez, was well attended during Brattleboro’s Gallery Walk Friday, November 2nd. Many found the images beautiful and fascinating. You could overhear people discussing past experience and future travel plans to “walk the trails” of the Trace. One visitor to the exhibit had grown up in Mississippi and was surprised at how recent the photographs had been taken (last Spring) he said, “It hasn’t changed all that much”. Those who arrived earlier in the evening enjoyed sweet Muscadine Juice from the Hillside Vineyards in Mississippi, provided by the artist as a special treat during the exhibit.
